As the weather gets warmer and summer starts to roll in during the month of March, several provinces celebrate their foundation days and various historical events. This month's festivals are scattered all over the country--from the Guling-Guling Festival in Ilocos Norte to the colorful gatherings in the southern province of Bukidnon. Start putting your travel plans in gear if you plan to be part of the festivities!BANGKERO FESTIVAL IN PAGSANJAN, LAGUNA (March 29-April 2)
The Bangkero Festival in Pagsanjan, Laguna is celebrated in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and is a tribute to all the bangkeros (boatmen) who shoot the rapids of the Pagsanjan River and who usually serve as tour guides for visitors who want to see the famous Pagsanjan Falls. The festival was originally celebrated during the first weeks of March. However, it has been moved to a later date. This year, the celebrations begin on March 29 and culminates on April 2. During the festival, there are pageants, street dancing, singing contests and a marathon, aside from the fluvial parade.
ARAW NG DABAW IN DAVAO CITY, DAVAO DEL SUR (March 14-16)
On the second week of March every year, the people of Davao City celebrate the birth of their city on March 16, 1936. The festivities include pageants, parades, contests, and performances. On the last day of the festival, a thanksgiving mass is held in the morning before concluding the festival with a parade and a number of performances that last throughout the day.
PINTADOS DE PASSI FESTIVAL IN PASSI CITY, ILOILO (March 14-20)
The Pintados de Passi Festival in Iloilo is the week-long foundation day festival of Passi City in Iloilo. The main event is the tribal dance, where participants dance in the streets with their bodies covered in intricate tattoos, commemorating the way of life of the original inhabitants of Iloilo. Some of the other events that take place during the festival are body painting, carabao painting contests, dance competitions, and beauty pageants.
