When you were in your 20s, dating was relatively easy. After all, you were, in Bryan Adams’ words, "young, and wild, and free." But now that you’re past your 30s, dating has become a bit more complicated. Apart from that tiny bit of pressure to find the right person, it seems like there’s hardly any room for a woman in her 30s and 40s in the dating scene. Clubs mostly cater to the young; your friends’ friends are mostly married; and let’s face it, you’re wise enough to know not to look for romance at work. Where else then should a gorgeous woman like you look for Mr. He-Could-Be-the-One? Below are some of our suggestions.
Wine bars
You may feel a little out of place at a normal bar, but wine bars are right up your alley. They’re sophisticated, classy, and tend to attract mature men whom you can actually have a great conversation with. Sommelier-level knowledge isn't necessary, but it might help if you review your wine basics. Wear a classic LBD (wine stains are a tragedy), bring a tiny clutch (so you can hold the wine glass with your other hand), and head on over to Cav, Barcino, or Planet Grapes.
Coffee Shops
When you have a couple of hours to spare, drop by your favorite coffee shop. Its warm and friendly ambience (and perhaps the smell of coffee) tends to encourage openness in people. Wear something nicer than your average t-shirt and jeans--even though you don’t want other people to think that you’re there to get noticed, you don’t want to look like a total slob either.
Art museums
A visit to an art museum doesn’t just give you an opportunity to see some of the nation’s prized possessions; it also helps you zero in on men who might have the same sophisticated tastes as you. Just be ready to talk a little (or a lot) about art. Not so familiar with the topic in general? Watch The Girl with the Pearl Earring, Midnight in Paris, and Frida, and then work your way to the treasures at the National Museum, Yuchengco Museum, and Ayala Museum.
