First dates usually set the bar for future get-togethers. If you and the guy are compatible enough the first time you go out, then there’s hope for a second and third date. If not, well, there are other fish in the sea. Sometimes, however, a first date can blow all other first dates out of the water, as was the case with 21-year-old Tristan Gareau. The young man really set the standard when, while on a first date with a girl, he actually saved somebody’s life.

While driving his car with his date in Winnipeg, Canada, Gareau happened to pass by a smoking car that had crashed into a condominium. The driver, a 65-year-old man, was still inside the vehicle unconscious. “I don't know how much longer he could have stayed in there,” he told CBC News.

In a heroic move, Gareau got down and rescued the man from the car. A few seconds later, the vehicle burst into flames. Both he and the driver are safe. Impressed? We bet so was his date!
