Have you two lost the spark? Are you two fighting all the time? While most couples opt to end things abruptly with their beau, it is better if you two take a break from each other when there’s trouble in paradise.

Relationship psychologist Susan Quilliam, author of The New Joy of Sex says that being away from each other provides space for a different perspective, “It can give a chance to think without the daily stress of interacting with someone you're fighting with.” Keep these things in mind if you and your man agree to part ways for a while:

Set ground rules.
Before you finally decide to take a break, make sure you set boundaries. Are you two still allowed to constantly talk to each other? Can you date other people? How often should you two talk on messenger apps? It’s essential to lay down the rules so that you two won’t have a bigger misunderstanding all throughout your “break”.

Have an end date.

Get your planner and indicate the exact date you and your man should settle things right. Not having an end date can prolong the time you and your partner have been apart and that would probably not end well. You don’t want him to suddenly fade away, right?

Stay social.
Go out with your friends, family, and loved ones! Don’t wallow in self-pity just because you and your partner are not talking. This is the perfect opportunity to reach out to the people you haven’t seen or talked for a long time the moment you got in a relationship.

Jot down your thoughts.

Being away from your significant other for gives you ample time to think and re-evaluate your relationship. Keep a diary and write down everything you feel whether they’re good or bad.

Listen to your intuition.
At the end of the day, you’re still the one who has the power to decide if you want to continue with the relationship or not. If you do notice red flags while you were rethinking, it’s better to decide on what option would be best for you—the choice where you’ll be happier.
