Science says that opposites attract and those that are alike will repel each other, but does it also hold true when it comes to relationships? According to Stacy Lynn Harp, a clinically trained marriage and family therapist in Tennessee, people will attract people they share the same similarities with. "Likeness attracts likeness. It's actually a myth that opposites attract. Those who are seeking people who are similar understand that long term compatibility is more likely with someone who is like themselves."

In a 2008 study published in in the journal Evolutionary Psychology, researchers have found that individuals wanted a partner who takes after them in terms of personality. Aside from that, they also wanted someone who will complement them when it comes to general preferences.
