You can spend time with your family without spending much. The best part? You don’t even have to leave the comforts of your own home to do this. Scroll down for great ideas on how to enjoy quality time with your brood.

Whip up home-cooked meals and baked goodies

Bring out the pots, pans, and rolling pins, and enjoy family fun in the kitchen! Plan out the next menu for your usual Sunday lunch, then let your kids help in preparing the meal. Give them tips on the basics of cooking and baking, and assign them tasks that’ll allow them to apply these tips at once (say, slicing tomatoes, grating cheese, or washing veggies). Remember to brief them about kitchen safety, too. Another great idea: Teach them how to cook those family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Make a time capsule together
Teach your kids to dream big and work hard early on. Making a time capsule together lets you know what their goals are. With that information, you can then better guide them in achieving their aspirations for the future.

Establish traditions

Make weekends as fun family time. This way, your kids will always have something to look forward to, and associate great memories and traditions with the fam. Our suggestions: Family game night Fridays, movie marathon Saturdays, lunch-out Sundays. Match these activities with your kids’ ages and interests.

Go on a scavenger hunt
It’s easy, exciting, and fun to do! You can prepare it the night before and give each child a list of what to find (if you have a big brood, put your kids in groups and teach them a thing or two about teamwork!) Optional: game prizes.

Do arts and crafts

Bring out your kids’ creative side by scheduling an afternoon of face painting or doing arts and crafts. Teach them how to paint simple shapes and fun characters, or coach them on making friendship bracelets and cute note cards. Score safe paint and crafting materials from art stores and bookstores.

Turn your backyard into a playground
Summer is just around the corner. Prep for the hot weather with a cool activity that your kids will enjoy. Try making soap bubbles or setting up an inflatable pool in your backyard.
