calapan_northen_mindoro_inside.jpgIt’s easy to define a province by its most famous city or attraction, but it’s unlikely that you get to capture its essence from that one place. Despite its many attractions, Oriental Mindoro falls victim to this trap by way of Puerto Galera, its most recognized municipality.

Overshadowed by Puerto Galera, Naujan and Calapan City are two of the more unknown places in Oriental Mindoro. Yet to be explored by tourists seeking a more laid-back vibe, travelers are missing out on the charms offered by its mountains, culture, and history.

Based on popularity, it is easy to mistake Puerto Galera as the province’s capital. But it is Calapan City that has this distinction. It is the business center of the province and has most of its schools, banks, and museums. The city also boasts of several eco-tourism destinations to include in your trip list, including a small strip of white sand beach in Aganhao Island.

The municipality of Naujan is the province’s biggest municipality. This seemingly sleepy town has some pretty interesting attractions and people who call this place home. Scroll through our gallery and read all about the mystery surrounding Simbahang Bato and the extraordinary work of the 203rd Infantry Brigade spearheaded by deputy brigade commander Colonel Johnny L. Macanas for Naujeños.
