Maldives, a chain of atolls and islets in the Indian Ocean, is known for its stunning white-sand beaches, amazing diving spots, hidden waterfalls, and dense forests. It is a tropical paradise, much like the Philippines, only with a well-preserved landscape and pristine waters. And, despite promo fares and tour packages, jetting off to this small archipelago doesn't come cheap.
For now, a Maldives-inspired resort called Stilts Calatagan in Batangas is the closest thing you can get to sleeping on cottages above water...at only a few hours' drive from Manila. You don't even have to spend too much, either.
They have eight cottages spread out off the coast, all furnished with verandas perfect for watching the sunset or just relaxing in a hammock. They also have wooden stairs providing access to the water below in case you can't get enough of swimming and snorkeling. Overnight rates for the floating cottage range from P9,400 to P18,800, depending on the size.
