It's easy to take Corregidor for granted as a travel destination. History teaches us that it was the site of many battles, an island that had seen too many deaths, especially in World War II. It is, perhaps, best known as the island U.S. General Douglas MacArthur left with a promise to return that was fulfilled a little less than three years later. What history neglects to show us is that Corregidor, like many of the Philippine islands, is a prime piece of real estate not only because it partially blocks the entrance to Manila Bay, but because, like the other 7,100 or so islands of the Philippines, it is blessed with beauty that instantly captures the heart.
