We all know the Philippines is a beautiful country. It's not just a matter of Pinoy pride--destinations like ever-popular Boracay, eco-conscious Palawan, and budget-friendly Zambales have firmly placed the country on the global tourism map, prompting such travel authorities as Lonely Planet and National Geographic to put us on their lists of best trips for 2011. This recently concluded summer season, local and foreign tourists alike flocked to these hotspots in search of the best the Philippines has to offer. However--and this is a fact hard-core travelers never forget--these popular spots represent only a small portion of the travel-worthy destinations in the country. With upwards of 7,100 islands, we have a virtually unlimited playground of beaches, mountains, falls, caves, churches, plazas, towns, cities, resorts, and hotels just waiting to be discovered.
