There's a lot to like about Boston, which was once referred to as the "hub of the universe." It was a term coined by writer Oliver Wendell Holmes, when he jokingly called the State Government House of Massachusetts "the hub of the solar system." Some folks then decided to apply the monicker to the whole city. And why not?

While only a few people refer to Boston as "the hub" anymore, it is where some of the best literary and political minds flourished, where some of the world's best educational institutions are found, from where a great deal of American history developed, where the American suffragist movement had strong roots, and even where some of your favorite TV shows were shot.
