May is a colorful month in the Philippines, as many provinces hold fiestas to celebrate their patron saints and thank them for their harvests. In Quezon Province, the towns of Lucban, Candelaria, Tayabas, Sariaya, Tiaong, and Lucena City celebrate the Pahiyas Festival every May 11 to 15 in honor of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers. It is also a way of giving thanks for a bountiful harvest.

During the festival, the image of San Isidro Labrador is carried around town, accompanied by a procession. The houses along the route are decorated with colorful rice wafers called kiping, which is made from a traditional recipe. Fruits, vegetables, and grain are also used as decoration, as well as colorful native hats. Aside from the procession, festival highlights include street performances, yummy street food, and figuring out which house looks the best.
