There’s a new attraction in South Korea that's currently making waves on social media—and it’s a majestic, purple-hued wonderland!
Dubbed the Purples Isles or Purple Island, it’s located in Sinan County in the South Jeolla Province of South Korea. The local county reportedly started planting over 40,000 lavender plants on the islands of Banwol-do and Park-jido in 2019 to stay true to its eponymous moniker.
Aside from growing fields of white cedar, empress trees, and the like, the locale’s structures and establishments including their hotels, restaurants, restrooms, photo booths, residential houses, and even the bridge connecting the two islands have all been bathed in purple.
According to Thai travel blogger Gale Nungira who recently posted about Purple Island, visitors can explore its vast lavender expanse through bike rentals starting at 5000 Korean won (around 200 pesos). Meanwhile, purple-colored homestays start at KRW50,000 per night or approximately P2000.
As for how to find this purple island kingdom? Gale writes, “From Incheon Airport Terminal 1, take the train to Seoul Station. Ride the Korean Train express (KTX) to Mokpo Station, and board a bus to Anjwa-Myeon. Once at the Anjwa village, you can take a bus that will drop you off at the purple bridge.
