
The study, which measured people’s digital dependency, asked participants about spending a day without digital technology. According to the findings, 40 percent of the participants said they felt lonely when they were cut off from activities like texting, checking their social networking sites, or watching their favorite TV shows. Some even said the idea of being disconnected was unthinkable.
Studies like this show a generation for whom surfing the Web, tweeting, or exchanging BBMs are more than just a pastime for users. These digital tools are also how they form and sustain relationships, and manage their lives.
