Calauit Island is home to the Calauit Game Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary (CGPWS). Established in 1977, it is now home to several Philippine endemic and exotic African wildlife species and is currently managed by the Philippine government through the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD).

My first trip to the Calamianes Islands in Palawan was with my family for a summer excursion. While I have long looked forward to visiting Coron in Calamianes for its famed pristine white sand beaches, our day trip to the Calauit Game Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary in Calauit island unexpectedly became one of the top of my list of best things to do in Coron (and thereabouts).
