While we go to the movies to escape from the stresses of daily life, no one really wants to see a helpless female character crumbling into a pathetic heap the moment she gets dumped by the love of her life or a woman who continues to make mistake after foolish mistake. We want our female movie characters to be smart, able to stand toe-to-toe with anyone, capable of taking out the bad guys with only her bare hands, unafraid to say what’s on her mind, and determined to rise to any challenge. In short, we don't want any damsels in distress!
