Dance movies are a dime dozen these days, and they all seem to revolve around hopeful, naive underdogs trying to show other people they've got the moves. But dance in cinema hasn't always been this way, as this video clearly shows.

The 30s, for instance, were heavy on the tap dancing, while disco naturally created a riot in the 70s. This compilation begins with a creepily vintage scene from The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1921) and caps off with Natalie Portman's equally spooky crazed ballerina from 2010's Black Swan.
