Love is in the air! Valentine’s Day is the one day closet romantics are allowed to be openly mushy, and the one day cynics get to believe in love again. But without the right songs to put us in the mood, this occasion might lose its magic. The pop ballads listed below are guaranteed to turn the most ordinary V-Day plans into something extra special.

Which song makes you kilig? Do you have anything to add to our play list for hearts’ day? Feel free to spread the love!

1.  "I’ll Make Love to You" by Boyz II Men

Kilig Quote: And I’ll you tight / Baby, all through the night

No romantic playlist is complete without this classic Boyz II Men ballad. The melody might be enough to put you in the mood, but it’s the lyrics that best sum up the whole sensual experience. After all, the title can’t possibly get any more literal than that.

2.  "Love Song" by 311

Kilig Quote: “Whenever I’m alone with you/ you make me feel like I am whole again.”

We love the reggae vibe that 311 put on this song originally done by The Cure, it just makes you want to close your eyes and groove to it while imagining 311’s hot lead singer singing for you—and only you.

3.  "Everybody Here Wants You" by Jeff Buckley

Kilig Quote:
“And our eyes locked in downcast love, I sit here proud/ Even now you're undressed in your dreams with me”

The late great Jeff Buckley’s falsetto never fails to capture the hearts of lovesick ladies everywhere. With its slow, seductive beat and poetic lyrics, it’s impossible not to get turned on by this song.

4.  "Fallin’" by Alicia Keys

Kilig Quote: “I never felt this way/ How do you give me so much pleasure and cause me so much pain?”

Far from being overly sappy, Alicia Keys strikes the perfect balance between angst and desire with her gorgeous voice and piano playing. Good question.

5.  "When You Know" by Shawn Colvin

Kilig Quote: “When it's clear this time you've found the one, you'll never let him go/ ‘Cause you know, and you know that you know.”

John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale’s tearful reunion scene in Serendipity wouldn’t have been the same without this song playing in the background.

6.  "God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You" by *NSYNC

I never thought that love could feel like this /And you've changed my world with just one kiss.

Never mind that the title is a mouthful, the song’s title says it all. Originally done by country band Alabama, Justin Timberlake and company sent kilig teenyboppers squealing with this song during the boyband era.

7. "Songbird" by Eva Cassidy

“And the songbirds keep singing like they know the score/ And I love you, I love you, I love you like never before.”

The indie acoustic world still mourns Cassidy’s untimely death, but her angelic voice lives on through her beautiful ballads. This song was playing during Sarah (Laura Linney) and Karl’s (Rodrigo Santoro) love scene in Love Actually.

8.  "Make You Feel My Love" by Adele

Kilig Quote: “When the evening shadows and the stars appear/ And there is no one there to dry your tears/ I could hold you for a million years/ To make you feel my love.”

The way Adele  sings this Bob Dylan original is so touching; we can’t help but shed a tear or two. For all you lovelorn ladies out there, this is the perfect song to serenade your loved ones with.

9.  "Tattooed on My Mind" by D’Sound

Kilig Quote: “And I can't get you out of my dreams/ Now I know that you're the dangerous kind/ And your smile is tattooed on my mind.”

If you’ve ever fallen in love with the bad-boy type, this song must’ve hit you right where it hurts.

10.  "I’ll Never Break Your Heart" by The Backstreet Boys

”I’d rather die / Than live without you”

It might be full of clichés, but this song admittedly made you swoon back in the day when boy bands ruled the charts. Which Backstreet Boy made your heart go aflutter?

11.  "The Sweetest Thing" by U2

“Baby's got blue skies up ahead, but in this I'm a rain cloud/ You know she likes a dry kind of love/ Oh, the sweetest thing.”

Funny and lighthearted, this song gives an idea of the giddy but tortured feeling your suitors must get whenever you’re around. U2 frontman Bono was so adorable while trying to woo his girl with his antics in the video!

12.  "Born to Make You Happy" by Britney Spears

Kilig Quotes:
“I'd do anything, I'd give you my world/ I'd wait forever, to be your girl.”

The pop princess wears her heart on her sleeve and tries to get her guy back. Try singing that together with those gravity-defying dance steps of hers.

13.  "Yellow" by Coldplay

“Look at the stars, look how they shine for you/ And all the things you do.”

If you’re not a fan of overly sappy harana songs, this is the ultimate romantic rock ballad to be serenaded to, as it’s about dedicating everything you do to someone special.

14.  "Thank God I Found You" by Mariah Carey feat. 98 Degrees and Joe

“When you brought the sunlight, completed my whole life/ I'm overwhelmed with gratitude/ ‘Cause baby, I'm so thankful I found you.”

This is probably one of the sweetest collaborations from the last decade, and even if you're not a Mariah Carey fan, you can't deny that this is a wonderful song.

15.  "Count on Me" by Bruno Mars

“You can count on me like 1-2-3, I'll be there/ And I know when I need it, I can count on you like 4-3-2, and you'll be there/ ‘Cause that's what friends are supposed to do.”

The uber-talented artist dishes out a playful song that you can share with your best guy—or your best buds. We can’t wait to hear him sing this one live on April 8
