“If only I were richer, I would totally do that/buy this/go there.” we’ve all said these words at one point or another in our lives. Yes, money isn’t exactly the answer to world peace, but it sure can make our lives a whole lot easier. The things we’d all do if only we all had an unlimited supply of cash at hand!

However, there’s a good reason why money is a finite resource:. When spent unwisely, it tends to complicate everything. Let these 10 songs remind you that there’s more to life than being rich and famous.

1. “BILLS, BILL, BILLS” by Destiny’s Child

Lyrics:
“Can you pay my bills? / Can you pay my telephone bills? / Do you pay my automo' bills? / If you did then maybe we could chill / I don't think you do / So, you and me are through”

Money Moral: You should never let your man use your salary as a reason for you to shoulder all of his frivolous expenses. Remember, you want to be a girlfriend, not a sugar mommy!

2. “MATERIAL GIRL” by Madonna

Lyrics: “Some boys try and some boys lie but / I don't let them play / Only boys who save their pennies / Make my rainy day”

Money moral: We have to be practical when choosing a guy in this day and age. While we’re not encouraging gold digger behavior, you should always consider your suitor’s financial state before you agree to be his girlfriend.

3. “LOVE DON’T COST A THING” by Jennifer Lopez

Lyrics:
“Think you gonna keep me iced, you don’t / Think I’m gonna spend your cash, I won’t / Even if you were broke / My love don’t cost a thing”

Money moral: Don’t allow your man to shower you with money in an attempt to compensate for not being with you. While material gifts are always highly appreciated, nothing still beats the value of quality time.

4. “PRICE TAG” by Jessie J

Lyrics:
“Why is everybody so obsessed? / Money can't buy us happiness / Can we all slow down and enjoy right now / Guarantee we'll be feelin' alright”

Money moral: While money is essential for our daily existence, we’d do well to remember that it isn’t the most important thing in the world. Know your priorities, love what you’re doing, and you’ll find that money will just come naturally to you.

5. “BILLIONAIRE” by Travis McCoy

Lyrics:
“Oh every time I close my eyes / I see my name in shining lights / Yeah, a different city every night oh right / I swear the world better prepare / For when I'm a billionaire”

Money moral: What would you do if you were a billionaire? Yes, we’d buy all of the things we’d never had (as the song goes), but when we’re doing splurging on ourselves, let’s not forget to try our hand at making the world a better place by helping out those in need.

6. “RICH GIRL” by Gwen Stefani

Lyrics:
“If I was rich girl (na, na) / See, I'd have all the money in the world, if I was a wealthy girl / No man could test me, impress me, my cash flow would never ever end / Cause I'd have all the money in the world, if I was a wealthy girl”

Money moral: Us girls shouldn’t allow ourselves to be swept away by the cash that a man flaunts. The most extravagant displays of wealth wouldn’t mean anything if his love isn’t as sincere as it should be.

7. “GOLD DIGGER” by Kanye West

Lyrics:
“She take my money when I'm in need / Yea she's a trifling friend indeed / Oh she's a gold digger way over town / That digs on me”

Money moral: Going after a man solely for his cash isn’t attractive at all. If you’re looking for true love, judging a man by his bank account will never be the way to go.

8. “LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH AND THE FAMOUS” by Good Charlotte

Lyrics:
“Lifestyles of the rich and the famous / They're always complainin' / Always complainin'”

Money moral: The posh life may look like a lot of fun, but it comes at a hefty cost. Be content with what you have, and be thankful that your woes aren’t as pricey as those of society’s upper crust.

9. “SHE WORKS HARD FOR THE MONEY” by Donna Summer

Lyrics:
“She works hard for the money / So hard for it, honey / She works hard for the money / So you better treat her right”

Money moral: We all know that it’s not easy to eke out a living in these economically challenged times. Know your worth, and don’t ever settle for less than you deserve.

10. “MONEY HONEY” by Lady Gaga

Lyrics:
“It's good to live expensive you know it / But my knees get weak, intensive / When you give me k-kisses / That's money, honey”

Money moral: It’s nice to have someone buy us girls fine things, but true love and affection will never fail to make our hearts beat faster than yacht rides and champagne toasts ever can.
