It’s not just kittens or puppies who need regular visits to the vet. If your pet is already quite old, you should definitely schedule trips to the doctor to see how he’s doing. We all want our pets to be as happy and healthy for as long as possible, and proper veterinary care can add years to your beloved dog or cat’s life. So how would we know if it’s time to bring our pooch to the vet? Dr. Menandro C. Valerio, a Fellow in Canine Medicine of the Philippine College of Canine Practitioners, tells us about the signs we shouldn’t ignore. Check them out below:

  • You pet isn’t acting like himself
  • Your pet is having difficulty finding things
  • Your pet is having difficulty climbing stars or getting up or walks with a limp
  • Your pet seems to be in pain
  • Your pet pants excessively
  • Your pet won’t interact with you as much as before
  • Your pet won’t respond to your verbal commands
  • Your pet has lost or has gained a noticeable amount of weight
  • Your pet’s coat is becoming greasy, dry, or flaky, and his hair is starting to fall off
  • There are lumps growing on your pet’s body

If your pooch is exhibiting these signs, you should consider a visit to the veterinarian ASAP. Learn to understand what your pet is really telling you, and don’t miss this opportunity to make his senior years as wonderful as possible.
