Real_Living_Jan_Feb2011.jpgChanging the color of your walls is a surefire way to liven up a living space. Though finding the right color scheme for your home can be quite a daunting task, the best thing about paint is that if you eventually decide that you don’t like it, you can simply paint over it with a shade that’s more to your taste.

Real Living’s January/February 2011 issue gives some helpful tips on how to find the right color for your digs. Whether the transition is from bold and bright to neutral and calming, here are some tips on how to find the right hue for you!

1. FIRST, FIND INSPIRATION.

Leaf through books and magazines to find what images tickle your fancy to help figure out what you want. If you’re drawn to bright colors, interior design consultant Grace Moslares suggests having a bright accent wall and keeping the rest of the room subtle. If you’re more of a minimalist, go for neutral or mocha shades.

2. USE PAINT SWATCHES TO IDENTIFY THE SHADES YOU WANT.

“Focus on your main inspiration because it’s the starting point,” Grace says. If, for example, you were inspired by the beach, choose among the light blues that you will see in paint swatches (at hardware stores).

3. BE BRAVE WHEN MIXING COLORS.

Feel free to experiment with seemingly unusual or unpopular colors. “Minsan, maganda yung lumalabas,” says Grace.
