Real Living’s lucky letter sender wrote to the magazine a year ago, asking if any of three rooms in their home could be made over: an extra bedroom, the laundry area, or her mom’s bedroom. When she didn’t get a response, the family decided to go ahead with their own makeover, but left her mom’s room untouched. “The only way she’ll ever agree to have anything changed in her room is if we had won the makeover or hired someone to do it,” the letter sender says of her mom. “Gusto niya professional. [Other than that], hindi siya papayag (She wants a professional. Other than that, she won't have her room changed.).” The homeowner’s mom was thrilled to be chosen as a winner, tearfully acknowledging that the makeover came right in time for her birthday.
Asked about their problems with the space, the homeowner’s husband jokes,” Hindi siya mukhang kuwarto (It doesn't look like a bedroom!)!” The homeowner explains ,” It had no style. All of the things there, they’re just there for the use. Aesthetically speaking, hindi siya [pleasing to] the eyes.” If she needed a cabinet, for example, they would just get any old cabinet without considering the overall look.
Designer Marilen Faustino-Montenegro surveyed the room and quickly identified the main problems. See how the makeover turned out here:
