This homeowner wrote to Real Living, asking for a makeover so that she could surprise her mom who has given her and her daughter unconditional love and support through the years. “Thank-you gift sana para kay Mama (It's a thank-you gift for mom),” she says of her mom who works abroad. “Plan niya talaga ipa-renovate, nag-iipon muna siya (She really plans to have it renovated, but she's still saving for it.). ”

While they did their own little makeover by repainting their mom’s room, the rest of the house still needed work. The living area, in particular, showed much room for improvement. The homeowner complained that the space had no ambience and that it was just messy. After living in the house for seven years, the homeowner’s sister says, “Nakakasawa na (It gets tiring.).” As luck would have it, their home was chosen for a makeover just in time for Mother’s Day!

Designer Grace Moslares happily took on the project. She was so thrilled to work on the home, in fact, that she couldn’t resist working on all the other areas of the house as well.

Grace replaced the old pieces with customized material, which were made using wood from Handyman: an L-shaped sofa, an ottoman stool, a pair of arm chairs, a center table, a round side table, and an entertainment center, all by Pando Adarayan of Magara Designs. Grace and her team also constructed a frame for the existing mirror. The wood was painted white to add to the airy feel of the space.

Grace couldn't resist fixing the kitchen as well. She had the cabinet doors and drawer pulls replaced, and she also had everything repainted. She also had the family get rid of old stuff.

Grace took decorating the room up a notch by doing a bit of organizing herself. She also added pretty beddings and accessories from Robinsons.
