Metro Manila will be under the strictest enhanced community quarantine or ECQ from Aug. 6 to 20, Malacañang announced Friday to thwart the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant of coronavirus.

But until Aug. 5, the capital region will remain under general community quarantine or GCQ with heightened restrictions.

Here are some of the changes you can expect:

Travel to NCR Plus is limited to APORs only

Only authorized persons outside of residence shall be allowed to travel in and out of Metro Manila and surrounding provinces Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal.

There is still public transportation

Public transportation will maintain operations in Metro Manila during the ECQ period.

No dine-in, al fresco dining

Beginning Saturday, dine-in services and al fresco dining will be prohibited in Metro Manila. Only take-out and food deliveries will be allowed. Food establishments can continue operations until the end of business hours on Friday, July 30. 

Virtual religious gatherings only

Only virtual religious gatherings shall be allowed. Gatherings for necrological services, wakes, funerals, and inurnment for those who died of causes other than COVID-19 shall be allowed but limited to immediate family members only.

No indoor sports courts and tourist attractions

Indoor sports courts and indoor tourist attractions are prohibited from operating. Outdoor tourist attractions however are allowed to operate at 30% venue capacity

Travel ban is extended

Until Aug. 15, travelers from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Banglades, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand are prohibited entry to the Philippines.
