Although urban living allows us to be closer to our jobs and various social centers like the gym, the mall, and so forth, there is a bit of a sacrifice that comes with it, namely, space. For example, the rate a young family might be paying for a small two-bedroom apartment in the heart of the metro might be the same as they would pay for a starter house and lot on the outskirts of the city.

So what's a single girl, couple, or family to do?

The creators of Real Living magazine are offering up this book of great ideas for making the most of the space you've got. And Real Home Ideas 5: Small Space Solutions gives you more than just theory and concept. They've used actual small homes to prove that these tips are tried and tested.

Check out the slide show below for a sneak peek at just one of the featured homes in this new installment of the Real Home Ideas series. This particular excerpt is of a one-bedroom apartment decorated by young couple Sheila and Jorem Catilo (nicknamed "The DIY Domain"). Other home types in this book include studio units, two-bedroom units, three-bedroom units, and mixed use spaces.
