It hasn't been a year since the catastrophe that was Typhoon Ketsana (or Ondoy, as it was known here), so you'd think that everyone should have wised up and taken pre-typhoon precautions. But from the panic over Typhoon Conson (Basyang) and the floods and metro-wide blackout it caused this week, it seems that many failed to do so.
Remember, Basyang is only the first of the 11 typhoons PAGASA expects to hit the country this year. So it's imperative to make sure that you're prepared for the worst. Last year, Techie.com.ph published an article on high-tech survival gear. But you need more than just tech to get you through another potential Ondoy.
We've provided a guide on coping with floods, in which we've specified preparing an evacuation or emergency kit. But what should go into that?
Check out the slide show below for 12 emergency kit essentials. What's in your emergency kit? Leave a comment to let us know!
*Note: We're assuming you'll have your cell phone with you at all times. If not, though, you may want to consider stocking a cheap prepaid cellular phone, as long as you use and replenish the load regularly or get load that doesn't expire.
