We've heard about Asian minimalism, but maximalism? This term was coined by the owner and decoration 80sqm condo, and it fits this home perfectly. Indeed, larger-than-life pieces fill the diminutive unit, but it all works because of the assymmetrical pairings, which give the space a refined, orderly look. Two towering Buddha figures in the living area, for example, guard a Chinese armoire topped with more decorative pairs. Meanwhile, two mirrors with identical red gourd lamps flank Rommel’s bed, and even the bathroom has two vanity sinks. Most of the furniture pieces in his home were bought from flea markets, antique shops, or thrift shops around the metro like the ones along Kamuning, Mandaluyong, or the Sta. Ana area in Manila. And while most spaces similarly filled with chunky items and loud colors might look chaotic, this space proves that with a sense of style and the boldness to take a risk and run with it, you can end up with something quite beautiful.
