It usually takes a walk-in closet, a diamond ring, or a dashing, well-dressed man (who may be holding the aforementioned ring) to make a woman fall in love. But for the owners of this home, it was an old staircase covered with a tattered red carpet.

The old home started out as a deteriorating 1960s house on a 380sqm lot. There were pillars separating the dining from the living room, jalousie windows that hardly let enough light in, tacky blue carpeting in some rooms, and a kitchen with cupboards and marble counter tops that had seen better days.
