Who doesn't love a good home makeover! But we also understand that not everyone can afford to hire a professional interior designer (such as Nate Berkus) to give their homes a face-lift, so we came up with five really easy ways on how you can update your home. Check them out below:
1. Change your wall colors.
One of the easiest and probably most inexpensive ways to give your home a noticeable update is by replacing your old wall color with something completely different. If you’re used to seeing egg shell walls, for example, go for midnight blue! Just make sure you test the color out on a small section of the wall before you go crazy with the paintbrush.
2. Switch your furniture around.
If you’re bored with the way your home looks, you can simply redecorate using your existing furniture. Don’t be afraid to upset the status quo. Move the sofa from one corner of the wall to the center of the room; relocate one of the arm chairs from the living room to the bedroom. You might be surprised at how differently your home will look after a few strategic changes.
3. Declutter your space.
Sometimes, all your home really needs is a good decluttering. Schedule a day when you can thoroughly go through all your drawers and shelves to sort out which ones to keep, throw, and donate. Once you're done, you might not even recognize your own home.
4. Add art to your space.
Bringing home an artwork or two is a great way to give your home an instant makeover. Its mere presence draws the eye, making it a great conversation piece for when you have guests over. If it’s your first piece, make sure you go for something you really like, and not just something with a famous name attached to it.
5. Reupholster or repaint a few pieces.
Another easy home makeover tip is to give your old furniture pieces new life. Does the chaise lounge need an upholstery update? Trek to the nearest fabric store, and start looking for inspiration. Does the wood finish of your console table look outdated? Paint it with a pistachio color or shabby chic white!
