Most of us never know what to do with the space under the stairs. With its sloping angles and low headroom, this area leaves little room for comfort, often gets neglected, or ends up as a dumping ground for clutter.

This space can still be saved. One good solution is to set up a home office. We've prepared some tips for for putting together a comfortable and good place to work, but first, you'll need to make sure that your space is properly convertible with these steps: (1) check if there’s enough headroom for sitting and space for a desk--placing the desk parallel to the run of the staircase would be ideal--and (2) see if there are power and lighting outlets. If it’s too cramped, don’t force it—it might be better off as storage space.
