"Labradors are known the world over for having a kind, gentle, calm, and playful demeanor, making them a large breed suitable around children of all ages," Tatin Yang writes for Good Dog Magazine's April 2012 issue. In the Philippines, for example, the Philippine Canine Club Inc. ranks Labradors as the sixth most popular dog breed, which just goes to show how Filipinos trust their Labs.
Labs are descended from the St. John's Water Dog in Labrador, Canada, a breed famous for retrieval during fishing. After seeing the Water Dog in action, the Earl of Malmesbury was impressed and brought some of them home with him to England, where they developed into the English hybrids we see today.
