"Labradors are known the world over for having a kind, gentle, calm, and playful demeanor, making them a large breed suitable around children of all ages," Tatin Yang writes for Good Dog Magazine's April 2012 issue. Labs are descended from the St. John's Water Dog in Labrador, Canada, a breed famous for retrieval during fishing.
