Researchers from The University of Manchester's Cancer Research UK Institute and the Institute of Cancer Research conducted an experiment on protected and unprotected mice to see how UV rays would affect their skin. They found that the said rays damaged DNA pigment skills in unprotected mice, which further increased their risk of developing melanoma. The protected mice weren't spared either, although researchers report that the damage was not as severe.
