yakult.jpgA recent study shows that drinking Yakult, which contains Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota (LcS), helps boost immunity against colds. Professor Michael Gleeson of Loughborough University in UK conducted a study on 84 endurance athletes who engaged in regular sports training. Half of the athletes were given Yakult while the other 42 were given a placebo. They consumed the drinks twice a day for 16 weeks. The results showed that those who took a daily intake of fermented milk with LcS had less incidences of Upper Respiratory Tract Infection.

The study, sponsored by Yakult Honsha Co., Ltd., is published under the International Journal of Sport Nutrition & Exercise Metabolism.
