Coffee may have a lot of antioxidants, but a new study featured on Science Daily reports that consuming more than 28 cups of coffee in a week may be dangerous to your health.

Researchers analyzed data on approximately 45,000 men and women between ages 20 and 87 years old from 1979 to 1998. Medical history questionnaires were given in order to assess lifestyle habits, and the participants were followed until their deaths or until December 31, 2003.

According to the results, young men who drank about 28 cups of coffee a day increased their mortality rate by 56 percent, while young women more than doubled their risk of death from all causes. On the other hand, those who were 55 years old and above didn’t show the same vulnerability. Researchers believe that coffee’s caffeine content may cause excessive adrenaline, which couldhalt insulin activity and increase blood pressure. They recommend that younger people drink less than 28 cups of coffee per week to avoid developing any health problems.
