Most people who work long hours often put physical activity on the back burner, but Science Daily reports that it may be exactly what they need to have proper work-life balance.
According to researchers, there are two ways that work-life balance can be disrupted. One is through “work interference with family,” in which one's career slowly eats up time that is supposed to be spent with loved ones. The other is through “family interference with work,” in which one's personal and home issues seep into office hours.
There is an easy solution for both problems. Surveying 476 working adults, researchers found that exercise may help return work-life balance, as it helps lower stress levels, making an individual more physically and mentally prepared to face issues both at home and the office.
“We think exercise is a way to psychologically detach from work—you're not there physically and you're not thinking about it either—and, furthermore, it can help us feel good about ourselves,” lead author and Saint Leo University assistant professor concludes.
