While some are satisfied with a few hours of sleep, sometimes we really have to treat our bodies to a relaxing massage in a peaceful and quiet environment, especially when muscle aches disrupt our "me" time.
Fortunately, we don’t need to go out of town for the ultimate combination of on-the-spot treatments and calming effects of nature. We can simply head off to tranquil spas such as Blue Water Day Spa in Capitol Hills, which offers a sweeping view of the surrounding green and the city below. As if the view couldn't get any prettier, the spa’s blue, white, and silver interiors invite customers to lay back and let their preferred treatments wash worries away.
Blue Water Day Spa offers a wide range of treatments suited for customers’ specific needs. If you're simply tense and worn out, you can choose from different types of massages, which include their signature body massage therapies.
After a day of volunteering for Cosmo Build, a joint home-building project of Cosmopolitan Magazine and Habitat for Humanity, FemaleNetwork's Trixie and I decided to get a massage to relieve the pain from our unconditioned backs.
Trixie opted for the Traditional Filipino Massage (P950 for 120 minutes), which employs the Ventosa glass massage technique, while I tried the Combo Herbal Massage (P750 for 75 minutes), which involves pressing heated herbal pouches to soften and relax muscles before employing a combination of Swedish and Shiatsu techniques.
Although our private room was equipped with its own bath area, we opted to shower at the ladies' common powder room so we could spend a few minutes in the sauna, to prep ourselves for our soothing treatments.
Before she began the massage, the therapist assigned to me asked if I was comfortable with the pouches' temperature before she pressed them on my back, legs, and shoulders. The treatment’s immediate relaxing effect was exactly what my strained back was clamoring for.
I usually do not fall asleep during massages because either the spa room is too cold or I get distracted by the typical spa music. But possibly because I was conditioned well enough to surrender to the pampering—from the sauna to the heated pouches, plus the luscious mango fragrance of the massage oil the therapist used—I drifted off to sleep without a hitch. It felt like I got a good eight-hour sleep even if it was just a short nap.
Meanwhile, Trixie's Traditional Filipino Massage, which included a 15-minute Ventosa or glass cupping technique that sucks out toxins (or lamig in Tagalog) that cause back pains, "proved to be effective in soothing my persistent back pains," she says. The procedure was followed by efficient strokes from her therapist who "applied just the right amount of pressure" when doing the traditional hilot using lavender massage oil. "It was relaxing enough that I actually fell asleep during the massage, when I normally don't," she says.
If you want to reward your body with more than just a relaxing massage, you can try Blue Water's reasonably priced spa packages for individuals or couples, which range from P800 to P2,700. Blue Water also offers body scrubs, facial treatments, and face and body machine treatments that employ safe, non-surgical anti-aging, micro-peeling, and fat-trimming procedures.
So be sure to regularly treat yourself to some luxury pampering closer to home. It need not take too much of your precious time and your body will thank you immensely for it.
