Here's one more thing to add to the long list of benefits that coffee provides--a study featured on the Huffington Post says that this aromatic brew may lower the risk of a liver disease known as primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). PSC is the inflammation of bile ducts inside and outside the liver, which may keep bile from naturally flowing and cause liver failure or liver cancer.
Researchers from Mayo Clinic worked with 1,334volunteers. Some of the participants had primary sclerosing cholangitis, others had primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), an autoimmune liver disease which destroys bile ducts, while the remaining participants were considered as generally healthy.
Based on the results, coffee didn't seem to have any effect on patients with PBC. However, it was linked to a lower risk of PSC.
Other than protecting against the said liver disease, moderate coffee consumption has also been known to lower the risk of diabetes, oral cancer, and heart disease.
