Cervical cancer, while not as prominent as breast cancer, is still a major cause for concern among women everywhere. According to WebMD, it "occurs when abnormal cells on the cervix grow out of control." It is also one of the few cancers that have a vaccine and can be detected early if you undergo regular pap tests.

In the Philippines, Bravehearts Coalition, a non-profit organization headed by former model and Miss Universe-Philippines Abbygale Arenas-de Leon, is doing everything it can to spread cervical cancer awareness in the country.

Admittedly, there is a considerable gap in knowledge of the disease locally. Abbygale herself recalls how astounded she was when she first learned about cervical cancer. "I was like, 'If I didn't know this, how many millions of Filipinas don't know that fact?"

This led her to take up the cause, lending her voice and influence to the organization. "We have this campaign called ASV: awareness, screening, and vaccination, so we will be traveling more, going from region to another region, making sure that every woman would know about cervical cancer."

Here at FN, we believe that one person can make a difference. If you, dear FNite, are reading this, then we hope that you take what you learn from the gallery below, and share it with your loved ones.
