This year's Earth Hour celebration was a tremendous success. According to a report in The Philippine Star, 1,544 cities all over the country participated in this yearly event by turning off their lights for one hour, beating last year's number of 1,076 cities and municipalities. This puts the Philippines at the top spot for most number of participants--a postition we've held for the third consecutive year. The same report said that the energy saved this year was "at least 611 megawatts...equivalent to a temporary shutdown of a dozen coal-fired power plants."
