International Women's Day may be on March 8, but we believe that the celebrations began as early as Valentine's Day when people took to the streets to celebrate One Billion Rising--a global initiative that aims to free women from all forms of oppression. Before the month was even over, international logistics company SDV awarded grants to three local women- and children-centric NGOs so they may continue their good work.

By March, women's month was in full swing. Women from various fields of media were honored at The Hildegarde Awards. Jannica Diaz and Nikki Luna of Rappler, Anne Marxze Umil of Bulatlat, and Yolanda V. Ong, the multi-awarded head of Campaigns and Grey were given due recognition.

Microsoft Philippines also awarded journalist Maria Ressa, public servants Susan Ople and Vicky Garchitorena, Microsoft Philippines Managing Director Karrie Ilagan, and Microsoft Director for Small & Mid-market Solutions and Partners Diana Tibbs.

On March 19, the ECHOsi Foundation founded by Jeannie Javelosa, Chit Juan, and Reena Francisco (all of whom happen to be part of this year's 100 Amazing Filipinas), launched The Great Women Brand at the Yuchengo Museum.

The next day, another group of women gathered to launch The Purple Vote campaign to help push the RH Law forward in time for the elections.
