womanity_response_jessica_soho.jpgJessica Soho, a name familiar to Filipinos worldwide, was chosen by readers of Female Network to receive the first Womanity Award in the field of Media. With the wisdom of 25 years in journalism to draw from, Jessica is credited with the success of such shows as Emergency, Brigada Siete, i-Witness, and her eponymous show, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho. Her exemplary dedication to her field has been recognized by award-giving bodies like the Catholic Mass Media Awards and the KBP Golden Dove Awards. Besides this, she was the first Filipina to be honored with a George Peabody Award for Investigative Journalism.

Although Jessica was in the company of such media luminaries as Cher Calvin, Maria Ressa, Cheche Lazaro, and Vicky Morales, she emerged as the top pick of FNites.

Jessica has this to say about her Womanity Award win:

Thank you for this award. I am humbled but at the same time, very proud. But really, there are other equally (if not more) deserving women workers in media who deserve to be recognized, and I would like to share this with them.

These are my fellow women reporters who often risk their lives and their welfare, going after the story even in very dangerous places. I have women producers, writers, desk editors, video editors, [and] production assistants who work long hours in the office while their husbands and children patiently wait at home. Women who often put their lives on hold, while making sure our programs and stories air on time.

I am grateful and happy to represent all of them.
