strange_pinoy_names_bongbong_ballsy_dingdong.jpgAn article on BBC.com recently marveled at how Filipinos seem to have a penchant for picking unusual names for themselves or their children. Kate McGeown, who wrote "Playful Filipino Names Hard to Get Used To," mentioned that it was common to find people with names like Bambi, Girlie, and Pinky in the country. And while locals may not bat an eyelash at these names, it's quite understandable to find that foreigners are amazed that one of our senators is named Joker, our president answers to Noynoy, and his sister is named Ballsy.

But there are some names that even we, seasoned veterans of names like Bongbong and Dingdong, find unusual. Ms. McGeown mentions in her article that she has heard of people named Van Go, John F Kenneth Dee, and Ivan Ho. And we can add more to that list: the famous Edgar Allan Pe, for example, who is cited in many an anecdote. But what about you? Have you heard of people whose names just make you go, "Really?"
