People all over the country pored over news yesterday, waiting for more information about tropical storm Chedeng. We were all worried that it would be as destructive as Ondoy, but GMANews.tv reports that another Ondoy scenario might be farfetched.According to Science Undersecretary Graciano Yumul, the reason why Ondoy was so destructive was because it hit Metro Manila and the population exacerbated the devastation.
On their website, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reports that, as of 4:00 AM today, Chedeng was located East of Catarman, Northern Samar, and is expected to move West Northwest. Another report from PAGASA says that Metro Manila can expect moderate to strong winds, while the provinces of Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Samar will experience stormy weather. And, as of 10:23 AM, PAGASA has just upgraded tropical storm Chedeng to typhoon status.
Still, even if it doesn't hit us as hard as we'd originally thought, you should still prepare yourself and your family for typhoons like this one.
