The senate released Resolution No. 437 on March 21 to congratulate Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago for being one of Female Network’s 10 Womanity Award winners as well as for being named on Google.com’s list of 20 Most Influential Filipinas of 2010.In the resolution introduced by Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, the senate commended her for numerous achievements throughout her career. “Whereas, being an exemplary and distinguished public servant, she became the darling of the press, both in the national and international,” it said. “She was featured by TIME, The Economist, New York Times, Washington Post, and International Herald Tribune, among others. She was pictured as incorruptible lady, the iron lady of Asia, the dragon lady, the platinum lady and the undisputed campus heroine, etc.”
Sen. Santiago expressed her gratitude by posting on her Twitter account. “Thanks to my colleagues in the Senate for this honor. I am deeply humbled,” she said.
The senator was named as the winner of Female Network's Womanity Award for the Public Service category on March 8, International Women's Day. She thanked her supporters in a tweet on March 14 : "Thank you Female Network and all your members for the Womanity Award in Public Service! I am honored and very, very happy." Other passionate and influential femmes nominated for this category were Sen. Pia Cayetano, Rep. Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel, and National Book Development Board (NBDB) executive director Andrea Pasion-Flores.
