In a touching display of support, people of the La Verti Residences peered out of their windows and balconies on April 1 and cheered on healthworkers in the neighboring Adventist Medical Center.
According to the Philippine Star, the applause lasted for around 12 minutes. Some condo residents hung thank-you banners as hospital workers waved back and clapped in gratitude.
Medical professionals, who are the country's frontliners in the fight against COVID-19, have continuously been working under dire circumstances as numbers of those that have contracted the virus continue to rise. Several doctors have succummed to the disease, increasing the emotional and logistical stress of an already pressured healthcare system.
The Department of Health reports 2,311 cases of COVID-19, 96 deaths, and 50 recoveries in the Philippines as of April 1, 2020.
