If you often leave your helper home alone when you go to work or run errands, it’s time to sit down and give her an updated security talk. The usual “Don’t let strangers into the house” spiel might not be enough anymore because of a new modus operandi: TV news show Bandila reports that a thief has been targeting housemaids to get into homes by pretending to be a relative of the master of the house. One of his victims, a housemaid named Anna*, told Bandila how the thief had even asked her to cook him an egg and make him coffee. The man then ransacked the house, but his crime didn't end there--he molested Anna afterward.
Meanwhile, a household helper named Jennifer* also got a visit from the thief on the same day. He called himself "Dr. Brian" and pretended to be her employer’s cousin. “Nahiya ako na di siya papasukin dahil kilala raw siya ni Sir e (I was hesitant about not letting him in because he said he knew my employer),” she is quoted as saying on ABS-CBNNews.com. When Jennifer went to wake her employer, the thief made his escape. She tried to stop him but only got bruises and small wounds for her efforts.
Police warned citizens that thieves like “Dr. Brian” use all resources and strategies available to them--like your neighbors, letters you’re supposed to receive that they intercept, and even spying on your home. For the cases above, they described the robber as a man aged 42 to 45 years old who stands between 5’7” and 5’8”. He has a medium to heavy build, fair skin, and a chipped tooth.
