Mattel has just released three new dolls in new body types, CNN reports. The brand announced it on their website and on the TIME magazine cover with the headline, "Now can we stop talking about my body?"
The design process was so top secret, that the Mattel team had to use Project Dawn as a code name, so that even their spouses won't have a clue.
The petite, curvy, and tall Barbie dolls are now available on Barbie.com alongside the first doll's body type. Also, Mattel came up seven types of skin tones, 22 eye colors, and 24 hairstyles. The 33 diverse dolls will roll out in stages. There is still no word yet when it will be distributed to retail stores.
Prior to these design changes, Mattel produced dolls with moveable ankles that can wear flats. This dramatic change is the answer to the criticsm that Mattel creates an unrealistic beauty and body standard to girls.
