Her answer: “I believe that the real problem in this world is not climate change; the real problem is us, because of our ignorance and apathy. What we have to do is to start changing our ways, to start recalibrating our minds, and redirecting our steps because, together, as a global community, our micro efforts will have a macro effect to help save our home, our planet. Thank you.”

One of her dreams is to become a doctor. Even without a degree in medicine, she still managed to fulfill her goal through her career as a medical physicist-slash-professor.

Before being Miss Earth 2017, Karen won 1st runner-up in the 2015 Ms. Shape PH.

Her advocacy as “Liwanag ng Kalikasan” is conservation of energy. In an interview for the website of Miss Philippines Earth, Karen shared: “As a physicist, I understand the importance of daily consumption of energy that is why my environmental advocacy is the conservation of energy and to embrace renewable and sustainable sources of energy in exchange for fossil fuel, which contributes to a huge percentage [of] global warming.”

She also believes that the Miss Earth pageant is a great platform to share what she believes in. “I could use this platform to share my voice, advocacy and to be a good example to everyone as I share and live a message of hope that we can all work together as a community to save our planet Earth.”
