Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, is expecting her first child with her husband, Prince William, Foxnews.com reports.

A representative of the royal couple confirmed the good news through a statement released on December 3. "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby," said the statement. "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news."

As Prince William’s firstborn, the child will be third in line to the throne, regardless of the baby's sex.

The representative also said that the Duchess of Cambridge, who has not yet reached the 12-week pregnancy mark, was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London for hyperemesis gravidarum, a very acute morning sickness that requires extra hydration and nutrients.

"As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter."
