Kate Middleton with gray hair?!

The Duchess of Cambridge caused quite a stir online when photos of her with un-retouched gray hair surfaced last February 19. First things first, Kate is beautiful—whether with colored hair or coming out (somewhat) au naturel. That said, many believe that she’s skipping the dye job because she’s seven months pregnant with her second child with Prince William. And for good reason: Past studies show that low levels of hair dye can be absorbed through the skin after application, and the dye is excreted into the urine. This minimal amount is not thought to be enough to cause a problem for the baby, but it’s still better to be safe than put your child at risk. According to Hector Real, creative director of Vivere Salon, it is not advisable to color hair of pregnant women, "The ammonia content present in most products has a very sharp scent, which can be nauseating. However, some doctors allow their patients to have their hair colored given that the salon uses organic products. It's always best to get clearance from doctors prior to getting your hair colored." And while we’re on the subject, if you’re not preggers but don’t have time to get a professional dye job to retouch your roots, check out these DIY hacks to solve that problem, pronto!
